St. Matthäus-Kirche
(Protestant)

The St. Matthäus-Kirche / St. Mathew's Church that has been built after plans of Friedrich August Stüler is both donation and challenge for the protestant church. St. Matthäus is traditionally seen as a good place for protestant church music. Many people consider St. Matthäus as a concert church because of its musically enriched church service. It is generally open for guest concerts. Well-known musicians are contributing to this church's musical character.
Founded in 1999, the St. Matthäus' Foundation belongs to the protestant church of Berlin-Brandenburg in Oberlausitz. Its main focus is to support art and culture. But its main purpose is to encourage the permanent dialogue between church, theologists and artists. Regularly the St. Matthäus Church is hosting exhibitions of modern art. The series "Das andere Altarbild" is presenting modern art pieces as altar pictures. For more than thirty years the protestant church of Berlin-Brandenburg is contributing to public art and culture, especially through the work of the church's own art spokesman.
